Blondfire, 1100 Warehouse, Austin, 14 March 2012, SXSW 2012

Blondfire played good rocky pop, like a less heavy Verruca Salt, Madder Rose, Bettie Severt, an indie Jane Weidlen or The Bangles. The band were tight, but backing seemed functional rather than striking or inspired, though it certainly enhanced the songs.

The song 'Hide and Seek' was strong and catchy, and the song after (the penultimate one) was really good, with a great martial-style drum part. The last song was a bit overly poppy in comparison. An interesting set, though, and it would be interesting to hear more of their studio stuff.

The venue was disappointing, though. The sound really clattered, apparently fun. on later had real problems. We left before fun. started as they were so late coming on.
