Michael Kiwanuka, Radio Day Stage, 3pm

Michael opened his set and was immediately surrounded by a set of photographers. It seems like he'll be a real star of SXSW this year. He has a really wonderful voice, which brings to mind great singers like Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder and Otis Redding. And he played some great guitar accompaniment, intricate where it needed to be, lovely simple strumming when that was needed.

Tell Me A Tale was really great. Michael and the bassist, Pete, created a great sound and atmosphere between them. He said that Lasan didn't have a title after he wrote it, so he named it after his favourite restaurant. He closed with a Bill Withers cover ('I don't know'), so the similarity clearly isn't a coincidence. He put in a great acapella break and had everyone clapping along.
A real great show. Like a warm summer late afternoon glow in the convention centre.

Set list: I'll get along - I'm getting ready - Rest - Tell me a tale - Always waiting - Bones - Lasan - Home again - I don't know
